Our short history

CoCo Lab founder, Ameeta Agrawal, is a computer science researcher with expertise in natural language processing. Her doctoral work investigated sentiment and sarcasm in user-generated natural language text, where she found that existing algorithms treat user groups differently and process various perspectives differently. This set her on the path to researching diversity and fairness in AI.

Antonie Jetter is a management researcher, interested in solving wicked problems in business, technology planning, and public policy. She believes that most decisions on complex issues can be improved when diverse perspectives and unique knowledge of different stakeholders are considered. Fascinated by the potential of NLP to do this at scale, she reached out to Ameeta in December 2020.

Shortly after, in the summer of 2021, Mrinalini Tankha joined the team. As an applied anthropologist, Minu researches the relationships between people and novel technologies, such as how new forms of digital finance, like crypto currencies, support and hinder financial inclusion. Her research uses innovative data collection instruments that leverage computational technologies. Minu’s work also results in recommendations for more context-specific product design and user-friendly digital interfaces.
